TMS Guidance

I am so happy to start my 3rd year at Tuslaw Middle School and 13th year in education. Prior to being in the field of education, I was in the military for 4 years. I graduated from Ashland University with a Bachelor’s degree in French Education and taught French for 6 years prior to becoming a school counselor. I have my Master’s degree in School Counseling and Clinical Counseling through Malone University. I am a resident of Tuslaw and have kids that are in the district as well. Please feel free to reach out to me throughout the school year if needed.

School Counselors are a type of helper within the school. They help students succeed academically, personally, and socially through education and exploration.

Children face a variety of challenges at this age, both personally and developmentally that have an impact on their education. Every student needs support, guidance, and opportunities during this time of growth and change.

Individual Counseling

Individual counseling is confidential, one-on-one meeting; the role of a counselor is not to give “advice”. It is explained to the students, they can think of the counselor as a coach. Counselors help students to solve problems and create life strategies; counselors do not simply give the answers.

Small Group Counseling

Small groups are educational in nature and provide students with positive peer support. Small groups are a wonderful way for students to meet new friends and develop skills in a fun, safe, environment.

Throughout the year, school counselors may visit your child’s classroom and teach lessons that are developmentally appropriate and preventative in nature.

**Note: School Counselors do NOT do mental health diagnosis. Student participation in individual or group counseling at school is confidential and does NOT go into the child’s permanent record**
